International Paper Company announced in January 2014 that the papermill at Courtland, Alabama will close!! That means there are 230 trailer loads EVERY DAY that will have to go somewhere else. They're showing up at PCA in Counce, TN. Not a good situation for pulpwood stumpage prices.

However, we're told that "someone" is pouring concrete at the site and IP has stopped removing machinery. Maybe this mill re-open with a new configuration - we need it in this area!!

SYP Lumber Price Trends

The hardwood markets in Tennessee and Virginia continue to show strength and most mills are in need logs. We have advocated for the growing of hardwoods on better sites (Oak SI of 75' or higher) for over 30 years, and now, the economics makes even more sense.
