Whitney Houston was the most awarded female act of all time, in death she has sold over 200 million records worldwide yet she died at age 48 due to cocaine addiction and her daugher also died at 22 due to drug addiction.
I say it again, I don't have time to learn from my experience I study successful people to see what made them succesful and what killed them. Today I want to examine the factors that made and killed Whitney Houston.
Mentorship: Whitney's mum was a Grammy award winner and she taught her daughter well and when she met music producer Clive Davis together they moulded her into a big star. By 24 Whitney Houston was a major star. Time is not in the success equation, if you know what needs to be done at 17 and you do it, success will come early.
Separation from mentors: There is something called demonic positioning and I pray God helps us to discern. After success came, Whitney began to say things like "can I be me?" She felt her mum and Clive Davis were running her life and she wanted to be on her own.
In her 20s, Whitney was introduced to cocaine by her elder brother and then her best friend Robyn was a lesbian so they became gay partners. Then she met Bobby Brown who found out she took cocaine just hours before their wedding. He found her in her wedding dress snorting cocaine and soon they were doing cocaine together, he in turn introduced her to alcohol.
By the time Whitney's mum and her producer Clive Davis knew what was going on, things were spiralling out of control. When things got so bad for Whitney, Bobby Brown divorced her and he is now remarried with a daughter while Robyn also left and she found another lesbian mate. Shortly after that, Whitney was found dead in her bathtub. If you are succesful, God used specific people for you. Some people try to be a part of your success but you know the people that really helped you, LISTEN TO THEIR ADVICE! My father Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo always says to me in Yoruba "Wale so ara e" (take heed to yourself, beware, be careful). That voice rings in my head all the time!
The bible says in Proverbs 13:18
"Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored."
Whitney Houston disregarded discipline and correction and she came to poverty and shame. It can happen to ANYONE, take heed, be careful, stay under mentorship, it will guide you and keep you alive.
